FAQ

Are my pictures uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Does the picture quality drop?

No, for a JPG or PNG that needs no turning: the original file is put into the PDF as it is. A picture that must be turned, or a WebP, GIF or BMP, is redrawn and encoded as a high-quality JPG (PNG for GIF and BMP).

My phone photos come out sideways?

This is fixed automatically: the camera rotation flag in a JPG is read and the picture is drawn upright before it goes on the page.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Which dpi should I choose?

72-96 dpi is enough to view on a screen or send in a chat. 150 dpi keeps small text clear. 300 dpi is for printing: an A4 page is about 2,480 pixels wide, and the files grow with it.

Why were some pages drawn at a lower resolution?

Browsers limit how large a picture can be drawn. A very large page (such as a map) is drawn at the highest resolution that fits, and you are told.

Why do some letters or pictures look different?

A file whose fonts are not embedded, or that uses special picture compression (JPEG 2000, JBIG2), may not look the same as in a full PDF reader.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

Why is there no text at all?

A PDF made by scanning or photographing a page stores the letters as a picture, not as text, so there is nothing to extract. That needs OCR, which this tool does not have yet.

The Thai text looks wrong or marks float loose?

It depends on how the file stores its letters. Some files made by old software look right on screen but hold scrambled hidden text. That is a limit of that file, not of the tool.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

How is Thai wrapped?

Thai has no spaces between words, so the tool uses the browser's word segmenter to start a new line at a word boundary. If an older browser has no segmenter, it breaks between letters instead.

Can I add pictures or tables?

Not yet: this tool makes text-only pages. To add pictures, build the page in another program and use the "Images to PDF" tab.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

What is the difference between "original JPG" and PNG?

If a picture is stored as JPG in the file, the first way copies it out as it is: same quality and small. The PNG way decodes every kind of picture (including those not stored as JPG) and writes PNG, which is bigger but covers all of them.

Why do the pictures not match what I see on the page?

A PDF page is often built from several pictures stacked, or crops and turns them when showing. This tool gives the raw pictures as stored. To get the whole page as a picture, use the "PDF to images" tab.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

How is the text compared?

The text of each page is extracted and compared line by line. Red lines are gone from the old file and green lines are new. A scan made of pictures has no text to compare, so use the picture differences.

How accurate are the picture differences?

Two pages are drawn at the same size and compared point by point. If the two files shifted by a hair, many spots light up. Use it together with the text comparison.
