Your Photos Can Reveal Where You Live: View EXIF and GPS Data and Remove It Before Sharing

A picture file is not just the image. It often carries data the camera recorded, such as the coordinates where it was taken, which may be your home or workplace.

What is commonly found

  • GPS coordinates of where the picture was taken.
  • The phone or camera model, and sometimes a serial number.
  • The date and time.
  • The photographer name if one was set.

The risk depends on how you send it

Most social networks strip this data on upload, but sending the file directly by some email or chat routes may not. If you are unsure, make a clean copy first.

How to use it

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP picture.
  2. Read the list of what it hides.
  3. Press Save a clean copy, which redraws the picture from pixels only.

Privacy

The picture is read on your device and never uploaded.
